Funding for interdisciplinary research: Sandpit Workshop of the Klaus Tschira Foundation

-

The Klaus Tschira Foundation offers support for the organization of a “Sandpit Workshop” on a research topic of the applicant's choice in the fields of natural sciences, mathematics and computer science. The workshop will be accompanied by a program supervisor from the Klaus Tschira Foundation; the recommended group size is 10-25 participants.

A one- to three-day scientific sandpit will take place in the conference rooms of the Villa Bosch in Heidelberg. In order to bring together creative teams from different disciplines and career stages, the Foundation will cover all costs (travel expenses, accommodation and meals for all participants, (related) conference costs, childcare if needed, etc.) and provide accommodation in a hotel in Heidelberg as well as the necessary on-site support.

Successful applicants will be responsible for the scientific program of the event, while the Foundation will design the interactive program in consultation with them.

Applications will be accepted until February 28, 2025. The evaluation will focus on the scientific potential of the topic, the interdisciplinary orientation of the participants and the personal diversity of the participants as well as the interactive design of the proposed agenda.

New offer from the pilot project Motherhood and Science: Systemic counseling

-
Are you a mother and a student and feel torn between the two roles?
Are you thinking about a career in science and considering whether you want to have or are allowed to have children?
Do studying with child(ren) always present you with challenges?
Being a parent and a scientist has intensified your conflicts and created new ones?

As part of the pilot project Motherhood and Science (FEM POWER Vision), I offer systemic counseling as a space to look at where conflicts arise again and again in everyday life and where there is a lack of time and focus for clarification.

Systemic counseling is:

  • an effective method for tackling problems and challenges in different areas of life, strengthening relationships and developing new perspectives
  • individual counseling and support
  • for students, employees and academics
  • Individual and couples counseling
  • Free of charge

Counseling sessions can take place both online and in person.

 About me:

I am Dr. Sarah Czerney, media and cultural scientist, systemic consultant (in further education, DGSF) and co-founder of the nationwide network Motherhood and Science. At KGC, I coordinate the pilot project Motherhood and Science in the FEM POWER Vision project. As part of this project, I offer systemic counseling to support mothers and people dealing with motherhood in science.
I look forward to hearing from you!

Invitation to the information event “Ways out of incompatibility - the pilot project motherhood and science” (online)

-

Motherhood and science are still very often structurally incompatible or become a test of endurance. The pandemic has further exacerbated the situation for many of those affected, which could lead to new exclusions and an increased dropout of women from academia. This is precisely where the pilot project comes in: on the one hand, we want to raise awareness of the issue and, on the other, create concrete support services for mothers in academia. In addition, nationwide networking on this topic will be strengthened in order to join forces. We need you for this! Whether you are a mother and scientist, a student with child(ren), a scientist who is thinking about having children, an equal opportunities or family representative or a researcher on or interested in the topic of motherhood and science - we cordially invite you to our information event “Ways out of incompatibility - the pilot project motherhood and science”.

04.03.2025 10:00-11:00 or 21.03.2025 10:00-11:00 (these are alternative dates with the same content)
In each case on Zoom

The main topics will be:
- Why should we still deal with the topic of motherhood and science?
- Effects of the pandemic
- Presentation of the pilot project
- Planned offers of the pilot project
- Networking of those affected, interested parties and multipliers
- Kick-off of the state-wide survey “Motherhood and science in Saxony-Anhalt - status quo and need for action”
