Getting Started for new PhD students & Postdocs

We would like to give scientists who are new to OVGU a little start-up help and regularly offer an open information and discussion round on ZOOM. After an overview of the structure and basic tasks, and a little insight into the not so obvious responsibilities, there will be plenty of time to answer individual questions. We cordially invite you to get to know OVGU in general and the Graduate Academy's services in particular, so that your start will be as smooth as possible. We speak English and German.

New round of the part-time continuing education course “Project Management and Team Development” starts in October 2025

The part-time continuing education course “Project Management and Team Development” will start with a new course in October 2025.

We kindly ask you to disseminate the information via your mailing lists. It is particularly important for us to forward this information to alumni of the postdoc programme “Project Manager Qualification”, as the qualifications acquired there are recognized as modules 1 to 3 in this course. This gives these alumni the opportunity to obtain a Master's degree in just two semesters (via modules 4 and 5).

Some graduates have already successfully completed their Master's degree and benefit from this attractive further education program.

Here you will find the schedule for the upcoming round and the invitation to the information event. We would be delighted if you could also distribute these materials via your channels.

How Do You Do It? – Open Conversations on Care, Career, and Chaos

After the summer break, the online networking meetings for mothers in academia in Saxony-Anhalt are starting a new round. Under the motto “How do you do it?”, we meet monthly for informal discussions on a specific focus topic – to connect, empower, and support each other.

The next meeting will address a topic many are familiar with: the ever-present feeling of guilt.

Next Meeting

📅 19.August 2025
🕛 12:00–13:00
💻 Online
Topic: Dealing with the Feeling of Guilt as a Mother and Academic

Balancing research, family, and the feeling of never being enough – many mothers in academia know this inner voice all too well. This conversation will provide space for open, honest exchange and mutual support.

  • What weighs on us the most?

  • Which strategies help in everyday life?

  • How can we treat ourselves with more kindness and understanding?

Everyone interested is warmly welcome – regardless of gender, career stage, or family situation.
